Cheetahs previously were killed for their pelts because they were a status symbol. Now they help in the economy by ecotourism and they are in zoos. And since cheetahs are less aggresive than other felids they are illegally sold as cubs.

Taming

Cheetahs have been tamed and used as pets for centuries, even back in ancient Egypt. Ancient Egyptians used them for hunting. The cat was hooded and blind folded, then taken to hunting fields in low sided carts that were pulled by horses. A dog would then go and weed out the prey. When the prey was near enough the cheetah was let go to get the prey. This tradition migrated to India through Persia. This method was used by Indian princes through the twentieth century. Cheetahs are still associated with royalty and elegance. Famous rulers like Charlemagne, who was said to have cheetahs on the palace grounds, Genghis Khan, and Akbar the Great, who kept 1000 cheetahs, all tamed cheetahs.
